Choosing a Personal Trainer |
|
Investing in a personal trainer (PT) is an excellent choice, which can help you achieve your health and fitness goals all the while having fun. There are literally thousands and thousands of personal trainers out there, all with different personalities, skill-sets and training methods. Here you will find information on how to select the right personal trainer for you. Qualifications (Australia) A personal trainer must have a minimum qualification of a Certificate IV in Fitness if they wish to register with Fitness Australia. Some personal trainers have degrees in exercise science and/or human movement studies. These personal trainers must still attain a minimum of Certificate IV in Fitness (either via study or recognition of prior learning) if they wish to register with Fitness Australia as a personal trainer. Professional membership (Australia) Although it is not mandatory for a personal trainer or gym instructor to register with Fitness Australia, it is usually a requirement set by employers. Fitness Australia has set standards (code of practice) within the fitness industry and ensures that all registered fitness professionals are fully trained and that standards are maintained via a continuing education program. Choosing a Personal Trainer (PT) When deciding which personal trainer is for you, utilise the checklist below to aid in your decision: Does the PT hold the appropriate qualifications, including a current Senior 1st Aid Certificate? Is the PT friendly and trustworthy? Do you feel comfortable and safe with the PT? Do you think you will enjoy the session(s) with the PT? Does the PT have the ability to motivate you? Do you feel you can accomplish your health and fitness goals with the PT? Is the PT knowledgeable in their field? Does the PT listen to you? Will the PT train you within your capabilities? Is the PT worth the money you are going to pay? If you answer “NO” to any of the above questions, then think about trying a different personal trainer.
